Zora Mary Sanchez, 102, of Lawton, Oklahoma passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023 in Lawton.

Zora Mary Sanchez was born in Trieste, Italy, on April 4, 1920 during the Woodrow Wilson administration to George and Amelia (Zadnik) Mertel. As a child she emigrated to the United States on a ship with her family and they ended up living in Cleveland, Ohio. As a young adult, she moved to Los Angeles where she worked for the Los Angeles Police Department as a records clerk. This is also where she met the love of her life Gilbert Michael Sanchez. According to her children, she was the "Greatest mother ever" and loved her children and grandchildren more than anything.

Zora is survived by her daughter, Carla M. Molster and husband, William and son, Michael G. Sanchez and wife, Leah; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister, Mildred Mertel; and special friends, Sandra Baker and Petra Mally.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, William Mertel.
