Obituary

William Keith Staubach, 58, Lawton, passed away after a short illness on Thursday, May 30, 2019 in Lawton.

Keith was a giant of a man, figuratively and literally. Tall, broad, and husky. Those who knew him understood it was to house his giant heart. Keith slipped the surly bonds of this Earth and went to Heaven, where his beloved mom had been waiting.

He was born in Lawton on July 23, 1960, to Yvonne L. "Pat" McCosh Staubach, who would raise him as a single mother. Keith graduated from Lawton High School.

He enjoyed fishing, trying to fish, talking about fishing, fixing to go fishin' and occasionally, catching fish. He had co-owned several boats but had just as much fun (and just as poor luck) at the side of a farm pond on his family's land near Paradise Valley in rural Northern Comanche County.

Keith had a career as a mental health aide for the State Hospital at Fort Supply, OK before becoming a professional truck driver. He drove for US Xpress on a team truck with his friend James "Jimmy" Bearden, formerly of Porter Hill, who preceded him in death. Keith retired from his career to take care of his ailing mother in her final years.

His selfless dedication continued for long after. Keith volunteered for several years on the lighting crew for "The Prince of Peace" Easter Pageant held at the Holy City of the Wichitas.

Keith used his mind in many creative ways. He was an active tabletop gamer and a longtime player of World of Warcraft.

As Lord Liam McManus, he also spent a number of years active in the Society for Creative Anachronism. Lord Liam was granted his Award of Arms in 1991 given for his service to the group and the Kingdom. Lord Liam would become a member of the prestigious Order des Coateś Anciennes. The Order is reserved for those who go above and beyond the call of duty in service to the SCA. Lord Liam was a dedicated heavy fighter from the Barony of the Eldern Hills. He held several awards for his group, including the title Domestic Goddess, given for selfless work in the kitchens during Feasts or Taverns. His garb and gear reflected his talent as a craftsman. His many victories in battle, testaments of his dedication to the craft.

Keith is survived by numerous cousins, his dog MoMo, a cadre of chosen family who loved him like a brother, including but not limited to: Jim Cox, Chris Gatliff, Willene Handy, Paul "PJ" Harrop Jr., Seth Harrop and wife Breanna, Valariee Ann Southerland-Jinks, Clint McGuire, Grant McGuire, Donray Neilsen, Vince Strope, and his neighbors and friends at Goodwill Village apartment homes.

Keith was preceded in death by his mother Pat Staubach, his grandparents Oscar and Ruby McCosh, formerly of Elgin and two aunts: Erma June McCosh Hewes Cornish, formerly of Elgin and Ellen McCosh Franklin, formerly of Lawton and a number of cousins.

In lieu of flowers, his friends ask that you go enjoy a meal at his favorite restaurant, The Junction, 1412 NW 15th St, Lawton, and raise a toast of bulgogi and gimbap to this friendly giant, taken from us too soon.

The family has requested a private service and a service planned by his friends will be announced on a later date.
