Obituary

Age 79, Lawton - Memorial Mass will be 9:30 AM Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Philip Seeton, pastor officiating. Mr. Patterson died Friday in Lawton. Inurnment with full military honors will be in Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin under the direction of Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A wake service will be at 7:00 PM Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church. He was born September 30, 1930 in Spring Valley, Illinois. Bill grew up during the depression and in his formative years, his closest companion was his dog Tykie. Bill, Tykie and his best friend "Colonel" managed to get into (and out of) some typical little-boy mischief. Bill's love for his dog Tykie evolved into a lifetime love of dogs. During his teen years, Bill learned to be a mechanic by working for his father in the family auto-repair business. This skill proved to be useful as he became a Maintenance Chief while in the Army. Bill served his country from 1950-1972, including the Korean War and Vietnam, where he was awarded a Bronze Star. After retiring from the Army, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, gunsmithing and motorcycles. Bill was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he served as custodian from 1977-1992. Late in life, Bill and Rhea joined the Gold Wing Road Riders Association where they enjoyed the fellowship and camaraderie of the other riders and the joy of riding their "trike". Bill's favorite past time was reading. He was most happy when he was reading a book with his dog by his side. He is survived by his wife, Rhea, of fifty eight years, of the home, two daughters and their spouses, Joanne and Bill Dodd, Bartlesville and Jeanette and Mitchell Ross, Tulsa, six grandchildren, one great granddaughter, a brother Richard Meglan and his wife Judy, California and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Joyce. Memorial contributions may be made to Patriot Paws, 254 Ranch Trail, Rockwall, Texas 75032.
