Funeral service for Wesley A. Bennight, 90, Lawton, will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2015, in First Baptist Church with Dr. William F. Watkins officiating. Mr. Bennight died Saturday, March 7, 2015, in Lawton. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Wesley was born December 8, 1924 in Mountain Park, Oklahoma to Houston W. Bennight and Alberta H. Peet Bennight. He graduated from Mountain Park High School in 1942. Throughout his school years he worked at his father's shop in Snyder where he learned to rewind motors. He entered the army July 30, 1945 and was awarded the World War II Victory Ribbon. He was discharged Dec. 18, 1945 at Barksdale Field, Louisiana. Wesley married Emily J. Martin of Roosevelt on August 31, 1946 in the Baptist pastor's home in Cache. He began working at Ft. Sill rewinding motors and continued working in civil service until his retirement after 30 years. Even though he was never employed again he continued working on motors, clocks, pianos, organs, woodworking, and carpentry, furniture refinishing, and farming. He enjoyed playing the violin and continued to play with other men at the H. C. King Center until entering the VA Center in Sept 2013. The best part of Wesley's life is that he trusted Jesus and was saved at First Baptist Church, Roosevelt in 1947. He and Emily joined First Baptist Church, Lawton in 1951 where he became a deacon, taught young boys, and for 24 years drove a bus bringing children to Sunday school. Wesley is survived by his wife, Emily; his son John Bennight and wife Twila, Lawton; his daughter Brenda Pallett and husband Scott, Owasso; his grandchildren: Brad Bennight and wife Sarah, Flower Mound, TX; Brent Bennight and wife Candi, Lawton; Bethany Brooks and husband John, Lawton; Kristen Lamont and husband Eric; Ashley Pallett, and Matthew Pallett, all of Owasso; his great-step-grandson Jacob Shumard; his great-grandchildren Emma Bennight, Isabel Bennight, Brooklynn Bennight, Brayden Bennight, Cadence Bennight, Mallory Brooks, Garon Brooks, and Cohen Brooks; his sister Ruby Henson, Mountain Park, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box1409, Lawton, OK 73502.
