Obituary

Graveside funeral service for Vera Maxine Jackson will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 23, 2026, in Flower Mound Cemetery.

Family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Friday, May 22, 2026, at Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

Vera Maxine Jackson died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, May 10, 2026, in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 96. She was born on September 20, 1929, at Bessie, Oklahoma, in Washita County to Simon and Philbena Janz. During the depression years of 1934-35 her parents moved the family to northeastern Oklahoma. She began her school years in Inola, Oklahoma and in 1947 graduated from Inola High School. After graduation she attended a business school in Tulsa and for several years worked in Tulsa for Carrier Air Conditioning as the office manager of the Carrier Dealer/Distributor. Later she joined a stenographer's pool for Gulf Pipe Line Company. This job was very exciting and fun as Gulf Pipe Line was, at that time, drafting the plans to build an above ground pipeline to Alaska.

She was married to Ralph R. Jackson of Tucson, Arizona on September 6, 1952, at Inola, Oklahoma. He was a military career officer and following her marriage she lived at various military installations, the first one being at Lawton-Fort Sill, Oklahoma where she lived on three different occasions. While living in Lawton in 1953, she worked for the Department of Public Welfare during the time when Marie Detty was the director. Vera was a homemaker and military wife for many years as the family moved around the country to different stateside duty stations, including Alabama, Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, and even spent three years in Germany. The family returned to the Lawton-Fort Sill area in 1966. She did Red Cross Volunteer work in the Flight Surgeon's office at Fort Sill Post Airfield and volunteered in the offices of Crosby Park Elementary School when it first opened because at the beginning the school did not have funds to hire a secretary. She also worked with the PTA and was a co-sponsor of the Cheerleading Squad at the school.

In 1975, she reentered the work force and began a job at Cameron University. She retired from that job in 1996 after 21 years of service. She was a past member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Business and Professional Women's Club. Her favorite past time after retirement was feeding the birds in her backyard. She also enjoyed planting lots of flowers in her backyard every spring. She was an avid baseball fan and made a special effort to attend many of her grandchildren's baseball and softball games.

She is survived by her three children: daughter, Phyllis Jackson Schrantz and her husband David; son, Michael David Jackson, D.D.S.; and daughter, Tracy Jackson Schrantz; grandchildren, Michael David Schrantz, Kendall Jackson Wynne, Justin Jackson, Ryan Schrantz and Laura West; great grandchildren, Grey Lynn Jackson, Bristol Tyler Jackson, Flint Oak Jackson, Ruthie Schrantz and Beau Schrantz; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her three sisters, her only brother and her daughter-in-law, Cindy Jackson.
