Word had been received of the death of Tom Bateman, 70, Lawton. Mr. Bateman died Sunday, August 25, 2013 in Lawton. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home. Viewing will be at the funeral home on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:00 AM until 9:00 PM. He was born October 6, 1942 at Fort Sill to Thomas Jefferson William and Mildred Faye (Roberts) Bateman. Mr. Bateman served in the Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Cameron University and a Master's Degree from the University of Oklahoma. Mr. Bateman retired from the Department of Human Services where he was a social worker. He loved to ride motorcycles, play golf, and play the guitar and work crossword puzzles. Survivors include a son, Shaun Bateman, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, his soul mate, Chebe Jones, of the home and his little buddy, Chotto. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Johnny Bateman. Memorial contributions may be made to the animal shelter of the donor's choice.
