Sun Sook Taylor was born on May 2, 1936, in Seoul, Korea. She married James Charles Taylor, Sr. In 1973, the couple moved to California before settling in Lawton, Oklahoma, in 1986, where Sun made her home for more than three decades. Following the passing of her husband, Sun moved to Pismo Beach, California, to be closer to her son, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren. She spent her final years there as a cherished presence in their lives, watching the children grow and sharing in the big moments that made family life so meaningful.
Sun was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where she found great joy in her faith and fellowship with others. She loved the thrill of playing slot machines and especially treasured the friendships and sense of community she built during her trips to the casino. Sun also had a gift for hospitality and took great joy in entertaining guests at her son's Pismo Beach home on weekends. She warmly embraced her daughter-in-law's siblings as her own family, welcoming them into the home and her heart - they lovingly called her "Omma." Sun also took great pride in keeping an immaculate home and was well known for being a meticulous "neat freak," always making sure everything was in its proper place. She found genuine joy in cleaning and made sure there was never a dirty dish left in the sink for more than two minutes.
Sun was a caring and generous woman who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her warm hospitality, her kind compliments that made everyone around her feel special, and her delicious homemade kimchi. Sun cherished her time in the sauna at the gym, in the backyard watering the plants, and traveling around the world with her son and daughter-in-law. Above all, she will be remembered for her deep and unwavering love for her family, which was the true center of her world.
She is survived by her California family: son, Jim and his wife Tess Taylor; granddaughters, Jennifer and Jacqueline; and great-grandchildren, Keira, Cole, Atlas, Amy, and Samantha.
Sun is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James Charles Taylor, Sr.
