Obituary

SSG (Retired) Reginold "Buck" Hatton, 83, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, in Lawton, Oklahoma. Born on December 22, 1941, in Effingham, Illinois, Buck lived a life marked by service, kindness, and deep devotion to his family.

Buck proudly served his country for two decades in the United States Army as part of the artillery division. Rising to the rank of staff sergeant, he was stationed at several duty posts throughout his career and served during both the Vietnam and Korean conflicts. His dedication to duty and country was unwavering. After retiring from active military service, Buck continued to share his expertise by teaching soldiers how to drive tanks—a role that even took him overseas to Kuwait. His commitment to mentoring the next generation of servicemen and women reflected his enduring sense of responsibility and pride in his work.

Beyond his military accomplishments, Buck was known for his warm heart and joyful spirit. He had a unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Whether through a shared laugh or a kind word, he left everyone he met feeling better for having known him. His family remembers him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who never had a bad thing to say about anyone and who brought light into every room he entered.

Buck found joy in simple pleasures: spending time with family was always at the top of his list. He loved playing dominoes around the table with loved ones, trying his luck at the casino, and watching Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune—shows that matched his sharp mind and playful nature.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Lola; son, Reginold (Francine); daughters, Regina (JD) and Billie (John); brother, Gerald; grandsons, Christopher, Matthew, Stephen, and Will; granddaughter Alli; great-grandsons, Aiden, Stephen, and Hunter; great-granddaughters, Taryn, Adriana and Stella who will carry forward his legacy of love and laughter.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Reginold; brothers, William and Jack; and sister, Rosalie.

A funeral service with full military honors honoring Buck's life will be held in Elgin, Oklahoma at the Fort Sill National Cemetery on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 1:00pm. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him—a man whose kindness never wavered and whose presence brought comfort and joy.

May his memory bring peace to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
