Funeral service for SSG (Retired) Janos Gero will be 10:00 AM Monday, April 11, 2016 in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel.

A private family burial with full military honors will follow in Post Cemetery, Fort Sill.

SSG (Retired) Janos Gero, age 85, of Lawton passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016 in Lawton.  He was born April 2, 1931 in Mezokovesd, Hungary.  After graduating high school and seeking opportunity he came to America in the 1950's and enlisted the U.S. Army.  He returned to Germany, where he met his wife Dorothea Stech and they were married on December 9, 1959 in Damstein, Germany.  She passed away July 23, 2015.  They raised two sons while traveling back and forth to Germany, before finally settling at Fort Sill.

The awards he earned during his service in the Army include the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, 2 Overseas Service Bars, Good Conduct Medal-5, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.  Following his retirement from the Army in 1976 he worked Civil Service at Fort Sill.

He is survived by his two sons, Thomas James Gero who is an aircraft mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, OK, John Kurt Gero who is a financial consultant in Tulsa, OK, three grandchildren, Kevin Gero, Paige Gero, Jack Gero, a sister Maria and a brother Jozef.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Dorothea.
