Nolan was born October 26, 1940 in Washington, TX to the late James T. Nolan, Sr. and Dora (Williams) Nolan. He was the brother of eight siblings but was the oldest of this union to which five children were born. One sister, two brothers, his parents and grandparents preceded him in death. He was educated in public schools in Washington, TX, and attended college in East Texas after which he joined the US Army. He joined in 1962 and served his country with honor until his retirement in 1984. While in the Army, he earned the following awards, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon-2, NCO Professional Development Ribbon-2, Humanitarian Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Driver-Mechanic Badge, Good Conduct Medal-6 and Sharpshooter (Rifle-M-16). He served his country for 22 ½ years. We thank God for his dedication to our Country. After meeting Mae Frances Holland, the two fell in love and became inseparable. They were married October 16, 1967 in Wichita Falls, TX, and were married 46 years until the Lord called him home on July 2, 2014. To this union, God blessed them with two beautiful children. Before his illness, he was active with the Vietnam Veterans where he served as the State Treasurer for several years. He helped to set up the Vietnam and Korean Monuments in Elmer Thomas Park in Lawton where his name rests on two bricks on each side. He also served as the Chaplain with the Vietnam Veterans. James dedicated his life to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in 1985. He was ordained as a minister to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in 1986 under the leadership of Pastor Frederick Baumans. He ministered wherever and to whomever the Lord led him to carry the word. He loved the Lord. He was a loving friend to all he met, a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. A mighty soldier has gone on home to be with the Lord. A job well done, he fought a good fight, he has finished his course, and he kept the faith 2 Timothy 4:7. He will be truly missed but God knows best to wish to just make a mistake. Cherishing his memory is his beloved wife Mae Frances of the home, son Kenneth and wife Kristy Nolan of Wichita Falls, TX, daughter Jeanette Nolan Russell of Junction City, KS, two brothers, Wilbert Nolan of Dallas, TX, Ed Nolan of Lawton, OK, a sister Glenda Nolan Evans of Wichita Falls, TX, six Grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, three uncles, Robert & wife Martha Williams of Wichita Falls, TX, Ed and wife Hazel Williams of Wichita Falls, TX, U. L. Williams of Detroit, MI, one aunt Nita Williams of Wichita Falls, TX, a host of other relatives, and special friends, Members of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
