Graveside service for SSG (Retired) Eugene "Gene" Buxton, 84, Snyder will be at 2:00pm Tuesday in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Snyder. Gene went home to meet the Lord on June 9, 2012 at his home in Snyder. Burial with full military honors will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Snyder. He was born March 17, 1928 in Grandfield, Oklahoma to Alford Franklin Buxton and Ina Belle (Wallace) Buxton. He attended school at Soper, and lived there until he joined the United States Army. He married Annie Myrtle Enox on May 6, 1948 in Paris, TX. They traveled the world for the next twenty years. They lived at Fort Sill, Giessen, Germany, Fort Polk, LA, Fort Carson, CO, Stuttgart-Badconstadt, Germany, Fort Hood, TX, Tipton, OK and Snyder, OK. Gene did it all in the short 84 years he was here on earth. He was a truck driver, janitor, carpenter, small engine repairman, sewing machine mechanic, landscaper and a good friend to many. The biggest joy of his life was when his kids visited him. Christmas and fishing season were his favorite times of the year. Gene loved to tell stories and jokes to any who would listen. One story he told was when he passed an army recruiting office he'd say, "For three cents I'd join the army", his sister-in law handed him three cents and he joined. He is survived by his five children, 14 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren and Numerous Nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Annie, son Billy, his brothers, Richard Franklin, Raymond Buxton and sister Imogene (Buxton) Dixon and half brothers Hobart Ousley, Everett Ousley, Clyde Ousley, Ernest Ousley, Wilburn Ousley and Vernon Lambert.
