Family will greet friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 P .M on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the funeral home.

Artric "Mr. Art" Shelton, a devoted father, husband, brother, and uncle, was born on May 16, 1947, in Wilmont, Arkansas, to Leon and Minnie (Kitchen) Shelton. Though born in Arkansas, he later claimed Gary, Indiana, as his home and true stomping grounds. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1966 and began working for MECCA Arena and then U.S Steel.

Artric began his career in the military as a Private in 1974. After 20 years of service, he retired from the military as a Staff Sergeant in 1994, he continued his service through the Department of Defense Civilian Personnel Services for 11 years retiring September 30, 2013. There, he earned the nickname "Mr. Sure" because of his calm, steady, and quiet demeanor. He was known for being dependable, and always willing to help others.

Artric met his wife of 41 years, Doris, a soldier who was also serving at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where he won her love over a game of pool. From that moment on, their story became one of love, laughter, and family - "Because of a pool stick". The two became one on September 22, 1984, in Stamps, Arkansas. Together they began building their family in Germany, where their first son, Artric Shelton Jr., was born, followed by their two younger sons, Webster and Matthew, who were both born in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Artric took pride in his work and in providing for his family. He rarely took time off unless it was for important family occasions, never simply for personal vacation. He believed in showing up, being reliable, and doing what needed to be done. This strong work ethic was something he quietly and faithfully instilled in his sons. He was a man of few words but all of them was of full substance. Artric enjoyed reading, history, sports, cowboy movies, military doctrine movies, puzzles, playing chess, and listening to old jazz music.

He cared deeply about God, education and took great pride in seeing his sons excel, especially when their names appeared in the newspaper on the honor roll. His life was marked by love of service, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his family. Artric left this world knowing he had done well by his family and God and was loved by the same.

Artric Shelton was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Minnie L. Shelton, and his four brothers, January, Clyde, Richard, and Leon.

He leaves to cherish his memory one brother, Melvin (Towanda) Shelton of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and six sisters: Mary Shelton, Minnie Delois Over, Barbara (Benjamin) Stewart, and ArmaJean Taylor, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Juanita Jones of Phoenix, Arizona; and Lillian (Calvin) Stone of Gary, Indiana. He also leaves behind a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.

He leaves in the loving care of his beloved wife, Doris Marie Shelton, and entrusts her care to their three sons: Artric Shelton Jr., Webster Alexander Shelton, and Matthew Joseph Shelton.

Artric "Mr. Art" Shelton was surrounded by his sons, wife and brother where he peacefully slept at ease on March 11, 2026. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his love for his family, his quiet strength, and the legacy of loyalty and responsibility he leaves behind.
