Shirley Ann Milchesky Piehota, 87, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025, in Lawton, Oklahoma. She was born on February 25, 1938, in Norman, Oklahoma, to Alvis and Ruby (Mahaney) Rogers.
Shirley grew up in Lawton and attended local schools. She went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Cameron University and later a master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Oklahoma State University. On June 19, 1954, she married Eugene John Milchesky in Superior, Wisconsin. They shared many years together until his passing on March 6, 1995. Later in life, Shirley married Donald "Don" Piehota on August 28, 2011, in Lawton. He preceded her in death on December 3, 2024.
Shirley lived a life marked by dedication, grace, and unconditional love, embodying the virtues of a godly woman. She was deeply involved in her community where she was a faithful servant at church and dedicated Red Cross volunteer, a leader in the Boy Scouts, Brownies, Girl Scouts, and the PTA. She also found joy in painting, fishing, cooking, gardening, walking, listening to music, and, most of all, spending time with her family.
In October 1980, Shirley began a 20-year career as an education counselor with the Civil Service at Fort Sill. She was a dedicated public servant and a shining example of resilience and determination to her family. Despite losing her vision early in life, Shirley pursued higher education and built a successful career, earning numerous awards and accolades, a testament to her hard work and commitment to helping others. Central in Shirley's life was the love and support she provided to her family and community. She was a model of sacrificial love and was always there to offer a listening ear, a warm embrace, and wise biblical counsel.
Shirley found great joy in her family; always hosting holiday meals, cooking family favorites, and providing a place for everyone to gather where many precious memories were made. She adored her grandchildren, cherishing every adventure with them. Her time with them was filled with laughter and the simple joys of life, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts and a shining example to emulate. Shirley was an anchor of wise advice and encouragement, and her legacy of kindness and love for the Lord will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Garry and Conny Milchesky, Tamey and Kenneth L. McCall, Jr., Terri Calvert, and Julie and CDR Robert "Trell" Bond; 12 grandchildren, Garry Milchesky, Jr., Robert Milchesky, Jammey Milchesky, Yvonne Jackson, Alexander Milchesky, Anthony Milchesky, Jonathan Daniel, Sara Daniel, Kristy Loera, Emily Bond, Samuel Bond and Christopher Henry; 24 Great Grandchildren; two Great Great Grandchildren; her sisters, Regina Plotnik and Jackie Camp; and her brother, Mac McConnell.
Her parents, and five brothers, Ural Rogers, Billy Rogers, Marvin Rogers, Jimmie Lee Rogers and Little Jimmy McConnell preceded her in death.
