Sherry Elaine Ziska was born January 31, 1947 in Washington, D.C. to Frederick Ziska and Edith Elaine (Lucas) Ziska. She was the oldest of four children and eventually outlived all her siblings. Sadly, Sherry passed away and went to her Heavenly home on March 11, 2026.

Her childhood years were in a military family. They lived in Washington D.C., Maryland, Okinawa, Kentucky, Germany, and Lawton, Oklahoma

She attended Lawton High School and was a proud Wolverine and graduated in 1964. Then she went to Cameron University, a two-year college at the time, and received an associate's degree in technology. She then went on to OSU and completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education followed by a Master of Science Degree. Sherry later did Doctoral work at OU.

Sherry had an extensive and varied teaching career. She began at Eisenhower High School teaching business skills for ten years. While there she also was an Adjunct Professor andtaught night classes at Cameron University. Eventually, she moved to Great PlainsTechnology Center and taught business skills to help women return to the workforce in a"Displaced Worker Program".

Her later work years were spent working for military contractors, Telos and Techrizon, training soldiers to use software used by the military. It pleased her to use her skills and knowledge to teach members of the Army she was raised to love and support.

Upon leaving the workforce, Sherry began the caretaking phase of her life caring for her sisters and brother. Her other retirement interests included volunteering at the Diabetic Center and Hospice at Comanche County Memorial Hospital. She also volunteered as a cook at St. John's Baptist Church with a team from St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

During this period Sherry showed great friendliness to everyone. Her goal was to always call people by their names everywhere she served. She always wanted people to know they were valued despite appearances because personally she did not always feel valued by the world.

Sherry tried very hard to love her neighbors and actively worked to forgive all those who she felt had rejected her. A smile, a hug, and the remembrance of everyone's name was her way of being the hands and feet of Jesus in the world.

She began her walk as a Christian when she gave her Life to Jesus and was baptized at Westwood Baptist Church. Forever grateful for her Baptist roots, she eventually was drawn to the Episcopal Church where she worshiped and studied for the rest of her life. While at St. Andrew's she studied Education for Ministry (EFM), a four-year in-depth lay theological study program. Of all her academics this was the most challenging but most fulfilling of all her endeavors.

She is survived by her special friends: Ann and Ray Friedl; Meg Deal-Saul and Dave Saul; Blake Dutcher: Bill Niccum; her church family and numerous friends among the staff and residents at Willow Park Health Care Center.

Shery was preceded in death by her parents-CW4 (Ret) Charles Frederick and Edith Elaine Ziska; Jacqueline Ziska-sister; Fredrick (Fred) Eugene Ziska-brother; Vickie Marie Ziska-sister; and beloved pets Sammy, Gracie, and Kitty-Kitty.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1313 SW D Avenue, Lawton, Oklahoma 73501.
