Sharon Lee (Miller) Snyder passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 19, 2024 after listening to music therapy, at New Mark Care Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
Until 2018, Sharon, and her beloved George, enjoyed Volksmarching and travelling around the globe, sponsoring international soldiers from Ft. Sill, for whom Sharon crocheted Afghans in the colors of their country's flag, and collecting dolls from her travels.
Sharon and George served Holy Family Walkers Volksmarching club, volunteered for Catholic Charities, and were active as ushers for Holy Family Catholic Church. For many years, Sharon walked 100-10k Volksmarches annually and her walking records and awards were a source of great pride. She and George did Volksmarches in all 50 states. We say Sharon and George because they were inseparable, never spending one night away from each other unless one of them was in the hospital. She was quite the shutterbug and enjoyed putting together more than 40 albums of photographs they took to document their travels, walks, and family events.
Sharon's family joked with her that she was in her 80's and had never had surgery and still had all her own teeth, to which she commented, 'maybe I should have a shirt that says that!'.
Sharon was born July 17, 1940 in Valmeyer, Illinois and graduated from Columbia High School in Columbia, Illinois. Following high school, she worked as a bookkeeper for a company in St. Louis. She married Gerald Cherry in 1958 and they divorced in 1968. They had two children, Kevin and Kimberly. Sharon was active in both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America with her children for many years. She was also known for planning annual camping family vacations across the country.
Sharon married George Wade (d.2016) and they were married for almost 25 years. During this time, Sharon and George provided a home for more than 85 foster children from ages six months old through 17. They adopted three children together: Bridget, George Anthony, and Rachel.
Sharon married the love-of-her-life, George Snyder, in 1994 and they were married 26 years until his death in 2021. Their blended family included George's three daughters from his previous marriage: Nancy, Grace, and Pat.
Sharon is preceded in death by her beloved George Snyder, mother, Olinda Matzenbacher and stepfather, Louis Matzenbacher, father, Guy Miller and stepmother, Jess Miller, brother, Lionel Miller, and brother-in-law, David Berry.
Sharon is survived by her siblings: Mary Kay Richards, Guy Miller, Robert Miller, Lloyd Miller, Lea Berry, and sister-in-law, Holly Miller. She is also survived by her children: Kevin Cherry and Byron Robertson, Bridget and James Pyatt, Rachel and Jim Thorson, George A. Wade, Kimberly and Perry Woods, Nancy and Don Simmons, Grace and Bob Wagner, and Pat and Kevin Mitchell. Sharon had 13 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
