SFC (Retired) Robert F. McLauchlin, 47, of Lawton, Oklahoma passed away unexpectedly, Friday, May 2, 2025 at his home north of Lawton. He was born May 12, 1977 in San Jose, California to Eldon McLauchlin and Shelley (Nogosek) McLauchlin Close.
Robert was the son of a military father, and his early years were marked by frequent moves, living in places such as Fort Benning, Georgia; Alaska; and Washington state. He graduated from high school in Spokane, Washington in 1996. After working alongside his father for a few years, Robert enlisted in the United States Army in 1998, where he went on to build a distinguished 22-year career, retiring in 2020 as a Sergeant First Class. During his service, he was deployed to locations including Afghanistan and Korea. He was also deployed to Africa, which was a special time for him. He was the recipient of numerous awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award), the Army Commendation Medal (10th award), and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, among others.
After meeting at work and getting to know one another, Robert married Jennifer Pratt on October 19, 2012, in Lawton, Oklahoma. Robert and Jennifer shared 13 wonderful years of marriage, brought together by God at just the right moment. Their union was a true blessing-deeply meaningful, filled with love, and marked by a bond that was both extraordinary and enduring. They were not only husband and wife, but they were also best friends.
He had a deep passion for serving-whether it was his faith and church, his country, the well-being of others, or the family he cherished so dearly. Robert loved the outdoors, especially spending time in the mountains, and found great joy in helping others and teaching. He was known for his sense of humor, often quoting lines from his favorite movies and shows, and was an avid movie buff. He also had a love for music, but above all, his greatest joy was his family, who meant everything to him.
Robert is survived by his wife of the home, his four children, Layla McLauchlin of Lawton, Oklahoma, Paige and Gavin McLauchlin of East Troy, Wisconsin, and Alexander Moore of Lawton, Oklahoma, one brother, Kevin McLauchlin of Spokane, Washington, one sister, Angelique Adamo and husband Pete of Clarksville, Tennessee, his father, Eldon McLauchlin and wife Lynndee of Sylvester, Georgia and his mother Shelley Close and husband Mike of Spokane, Washington, cousin, Derrick McLauchlin, Jr. and wife Angela of Columbia Falls, Montana, a special Uncle Hal and his significant other Hailey, maternal aunts, Teresa Baldwin and husband John of Spokane, Washington and Laurie Cox-Barrow and husband Coy of Spokane, Washington, a paternal uncle, Derrick McLauchlin, Sr. and wife Cathy of Spokane, Washington, a paternal aunt, Sue Ellen Thorpe of Kalispell, Montana, and a cousin Jon Cox.
Robert is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, and a cousin, Jon.
