Kenneth Warren Lucas, 65, Lawton passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton.  He was born June 5, 1952 in Bakersfield, CA to Phillip Warren and Jeannine (Garthwaite) Lucas.  Ken was raised in New Mexico.  He married Gerri Lucas on July 10, 1992 at the Old Post Chapel on Fort Sill.  Ken retired from the Army as a Sergeant First Class with 23 years of service.  It is not surprising that during some of that time he taught auto mechanics while working in the Army.  He also did illustrations for the Army. He used oil paints to paint combat pictures and portraits of high-ranking officers.  His passion was to draw and paint where he did two summers at Minneapolis College of Art before he entered the military.  After service Ken did odd jobs looking for his passion in life. He stated that he just wanted to turn wrenches.  He worked for Sheriff Stradley, Checker Wrecker, Montgomery Ward and the Chevrolet Dealership. He taught night classes starting in 1996 at Great Plains Technology Center where he taught auto mechanics for 18 years.  Ken received Teacher of the year in 2006 and still sits on the Auto Service Advisory Community at Great Plains. The Skills Center out of Stillwater found him and he was offered a challenging career to start open a school and teach Auto Mechanics classes in 2002 at the Oklahoma Department of Corrections in Lawton. Ken had one of the best Skill Centers in the State and saved the state of Oklahoma thousands of dollars per year. He was respected and held in high regard by all his peers.  He always made time to help anyone with a problem. Ken was a coach, friend, mentor and most of all teacher,   he found his passion in life.

Ken attended OSU, OU, Central Texas College, KSU, Honda General Motors and Ford Motor training centers and has earned a Bachelor's Degree in Trade and Industrial Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. He was awarded Master Automotive Technician from the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation.  Some of his hobbies included: fixing old cars, painting, working in his garage, camping, fishing, helping others with car issues, and enjoying life.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years Gerri Lucas, his son Robert Lucas, daughter in law Tracy Bard, son Jason Walsh, his sisters Diane Lambert, Mona Chandler, granddaughter Kendra Vice and husband David, grandson Aaron Gruwell, and many others.
