SFC (Retired) Kenneth Ladislas Markus passed away peacefully at the Lawton / Fort Sill Veterans Center on July 12, 2022. He was surrounded by his loving daughter, Shirley North and son-in-law Darrel North, loving son Kenneth R. Markus, and a host of wonderful nurses and staff. Kenneth was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 15, 1936. He was a proud member of the "Buckeye Knights" gang during the 1950s and he talked about them often. Ken joined the US Army and was assigned to Rothwestern Kassel, Germany, where he met his future wife, Rose Klein. Together they traveled the world and raised their three children: Jane Houston, Lawton, OK, Shirley North, New Orleans, LA and Kenneth R. Markus, Houston, TX. They were married 60 years in 2021, before the untimely passing of his wife, Rose Markus.
Kenneth was a good father. He didn't talk much, but when he did it would be something meaningful one way or another. He loved to build wooden clipper ships from the hull up and was a very talented carpenter. More than anything Ken loved the Cleveland Browns. He was a diehard fan his entire life and he still talked about them until his passing. Ken worked hard and managed to make working look "so easy", as his family used to tell him. Ken always provided well for his wife and their children. He was a loving husband and Rose missed him terribly when he left the home to enter into the VA Facility.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Rose (Klein) Markus, parents, Walter P. and Anna Markus, brother Gerald Markus and his wife Geraldine, brother Father Richard Markus, sister Leona Markus, and nephew Robert Markus.
Kenneth is survived by his two daughters, Jane Houston and Shirley North and Son-in-law Darrel, and son Kenneth R. Markus; four grandchildren Richard Houston and husband Frank, Darrel G. North and wife Ula, Kristen Windham and husband Tyler, and Kenneth J. Markus; four great grandchildren Grady, Rose, Lucas and Emma, nephew Jimmy Markus in Parma, Ohio, adopted daughter & friend Linda Goin, and Silvia Morgan and many other cousins and friends throughout the country.
