Obituary

Memorial service with full military honors for SFC (Retired) Johnnie "Pepa" Bell, 87, Lawton, will be 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Terry Marsh officiating. Sergeant Bell died Tuesday, December 11 in Oklahoma City. Arrangements are under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service. He was born January 9, 1925 in Van Buren, Missouri, to Mike and Mary Bell. He joined the Army at the age of seventeen and was retired from the Army on October 25, 1962 at Fort Sill. He was a veteran of both World War II and Korea. In 1951 he married Paula Vobis in Oftersheim, Germany, and from this marriage twin daughters, Linda and Janet, were born. Following his retirement from the Army he and his wife were the owners and operators of the Prairie Inn from 1963 until 1973. He had also worked at the Sandpiper Inn for several years. Johnnie had many loves, not necessarily in this order: family, golf, making cinnamon rolls which he delivered to everyone he knew, fishing, spending time with friends and of course, his Wednesday night meetings as well as his beloved AMBUCS group, the Lawton AMBUCS. He also possessed the skill of carpentry which was evident on the many AMBUC ramp-building projects in which he participated. Johnnie was a very giving person and never seemed to know a stranger. He had also been active in the Elks Lodge. He is survived by his twin daughters and their husbands, Linda and John Kelly and Janet and Matt Lepien, all of Lawton; five grandchildren, Jason Clifford, Kansas, Shanna Crain, Brandon Cousins, Jake Sharp and wife Lisa and Stacy Sharp and Erin Hayes, all of Lawton; seven great grandchildren, Tyler Spellman, Kaitlyn and Hadley Crain, Stone and Kole Sharp, and Turner and Dawson Clifford; a brother and sister in law, Joe and Frances Bell, Collinsville, Illinois; many nieces and nephews. His parents, a beloved sister, Toni Revelle, as well as sisters, Deselena and Mary and a brother, Louis, preceded him in death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawton AMBUCS in support of the AMTRYKE Program at P.O. Box 242, Lawton OK 73502.
