Funeral service for SFC (Retired) James L. Osburn will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015, in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with Kevin McCurdy officiating. Burial with full military honors will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2015, in the Fort Smith National Cemetery, Fort Smith, Arkansas. The family will greet friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. SFC (Retired) James L. Osburn died Monday, October 26, 2015, in Lawton. He was born March 1, 1939 in Fort Knox, Kentucky, to James Reber and Ellen (Hundley) Osburn. He grew up in Arkansas and married Carolyn J. Person on December 31, 1956 in Fort Smith. She preceded him in death on January 28, 2010. James retired from the Army at Fort Sill having served in Korea and was a Vietnam veteran. Following his retirement from the Army he worked for Gibson's Discount Center in Lawton for almost 30 years. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church. He liked to fish, tinker with things and shop at garage sales. He is survived by his two sons and daughters in law, Dennis and Sharon Osburn, Geronimo, and Michael J. and Amy Osburn, Lawton; seven grandchildren, Misty Rains and husband Carlos, Chad Osburn and wife Sarah, Stephanie Osburn, Michelle Bienicewicz and husband Travis, Zane Schoonover, Tucker Schoonover and Conner Schoonover; six great grandchildren, Elisha Rains, Kaylee Rains, Jaden Bradshaw, Brooklynn Osburn, Ariana Bradshaw and Brantley Osburn; a sister and brother in law, Katherine and Jim Parker, Fort Smith; a brother and sister in law, Bill and Odette Osburn, Jacksonville, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews. His parents, a son, David E. Osburn, a daughter, Sharon Osburn, and a sister, Mary Dyke, preceded him in death.
