SFC (Retired) Eugene Wayne Scott, Jr., 73, Lawton, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 in Lawton. He was born September 27, 1943 in Pawnee, OK to Eugene Wayne and Leona Bernadine (Proshaka) Scott, Sr. Eugene married Floretta R. Baucom on January 25, 1966 in Newkirk, OK. Eugene served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Food Service Specialist from 1962 until his retirement in 1984 at Fort Sill, OK. For his efforts in Vietnam Eugene earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Three Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Two Overseas Service Bars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, Army Commendation Medal-2, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon-2, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal-6, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon-2.
Eugene was a hardworking, strong, loving, and gentle father that loved his family and was deeply devoted to his wife and daughters. Eugene was the type of person who did not like to simply sit around, but instead was always up and doing things. One of the nicknames that his family gave him was, "The Energizer Bunny". He had many different hobbies and the family was fortunate to be able to share those with him. Just a few of his hobbies were; motorcycling, fishing, CB radios, camping, tennis, metal detecting, cooking, bowling, and spending time with family and friends. Eugene was not afraid to try different things and he "went for it" no matter what. He loved adventures with family and friends. Eugene was no "Saint" by any means and tended to stretch the imagination especially when he was around his brothers and his friends. Eugene's children always looked forward to his brothers and sisters visits (Uncle's Bob, Joe, and Fred along with Aunt's Karen and Marcia). The family would reminisce about their youth every once in a while and usually after a few beers the family would forget their children were in the room and unedited stories were told. Eugene's children would always learn some "new information" about their dad and his wild side from when he was younger.
Losing their father has been one of the most difficult things his children have ever gone through but they realize how fortunate they were to have him as their father. There are no words to express the influence in his children's lives. Through his examples the children learned how to be independent, to be their selves, caring, honest, and how to have a hard work ethic. Although Eugene may not have told his family all of the time, his family always knew that he loved them and that he was very proud of the women they became. Eugene will be missed greatly by his loving family.
Survivors include his wife Floretta of the home, daughters, Tracy M. Scott and her two sons Scott S. and Keith W. Holladay, and Karen L. Scott and her daughter Breanna L. Scott and son Preston M. Meek, brothers Joseph Dean Scott (Stephens), and Daniel Scott (Emmert), sisters, Karen Lee Scott (Walton), Marcia Williams and Julie Warton. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Robert Nixon Scott and Fred Scott (Stephens).
