Funeral service for Sam "Carl" Mitchell, 79, Lawton, will be at 12:30pm Wednesday, November 14, 2012 in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Carl died Friday, November 9, 2012 in a Lawton nursing home. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, OK under the direction of Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Carl was born November 27, 1932 in Krebs, Oklahoma to Roy L. and Mahaley C. (Perry) Mitchell. He graduated from Lawton High School and later attended Cameron College and OSU. He served in the US Army from 1955 until 1957. He was a roofer in Lawton for over fifty years, with Mitchell and Sons Roofing. Carl also drove a bus for the Lawton Public Schools for many years. He is survived by his son Sam Carl Mitchell, Jr., daughters Rita Harrison and husband Bryan, Gwyn Riley and husband Justin, Wendy Wilkerson and husband Jerry, a sister Betty L. Gomez, grandchildren Reese Mitchell, Brycen Mitchell, Traycer Ridley, Scotty Gibson, Billy Fanning, Shayla Gibson, Loretta Harmon, Brittany Tedford, Tabitha Orr, Jared Wilkerson, Christine Downs, nieces Angela Williams, Amber Williams, Dianna Moore, nephews Steve Williams, Roy Williams, numerous great grandchildren and his ex-wife Florene Holybee. His parents and a niece, Gwendolyn Holt preceded him in death. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
