Funeral service for Robert "Bob" Davis will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2025 in Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ryan Sims officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow in Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma.
Robert "Bob" Davis passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the age of 97. Bob was born on February 15, 1927, in Faxon, Oklahoma, to Claude and Mary Davis. Growing up in the Lawton area, he began working at an early age and later served in the Army during World War II.
After World War II, Bob hauled chickens from Arkansas and worked for the Lawton Produce Company in Lawton. When the Korean War broke out, he received his draft notice and returned to military service. Once discharged, he resumed his job with Lawton Produce before accepting a position with Civil Service at Fort Sill. Bob dedicated many years to Civil Service until his retirement and then spent 20 years as a bus driver for LATCO Charters. Alongside his career, Bob had a passion for farming and tended to his land north of Lawton.
In 1964 Bob met Virginia Hall and four weeks later they were married on February 14, 1964. Virginia had two children, Ronny (13) and Deborah (10) who he raised as his own. He got the children involved – Ronny in DeMolay and Debi in Rainbows. From the very beginning there was never a cross word heard or a disagreement witnessed by the kids. He was a God send to Virginia and the children and was a wonderful father and dad. As a family, our world revolved around Bob. He was our hero mentor and disciplinarian, traits that we did not fully understand until we were on our own. Only then did his lessons on life make sense to us and we will be forever grateful that he was part of our lives.
He was also the most loving grandfather and great grandfather any family could have. He and Virginia could not have been more loving and caring parents. A devoted husband, Bob enjoyed sharing hobbies and adventures with Virginia. Together, they were active members of the Lawton Antique Car Club and the Shay Model "A" International Organization.
Bob was a 33rd-degree Mason and a proud Shriner. He was beloved by children he met through his Shriner activities, often dressing as a clown, riding his mini–Model T car in parades, and crafting animal balloons to bring joy to others.
Affectionately known as "Uncle Buddy" to his nieces and nephews, Bob cherished his role as a family man. He made a tradition of taking them to Doe Doe Park whenever they visited from Texas or Nebraska. Known for his warm heart and infectious personality, Bob had a natural ability to connect with people and leave a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He is survived by his children, Ronny Hall, Plano, Texas, and Deborah Ross and husband Robert, Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Hunter Hall, Lyndsey McAlister and husband Patrick and Damon Ross; nine great grandchildren; his baby sister, Mary LaVelle "Pill" Bean; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, a granddaughter, Jessica Major, a nephew Kenny Campbell, his parents, and siblings, Lester Davis, Pauline Meador and Dorothy Doling.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
