Funeral service for Rita Joyce (Estes) Duncan, 74, Sterling, will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Sterling First Baptist Church with Johnny Tims, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Duncan died Saturday, July 16, 2011, at her home. Burial will be in Sterling Cemetery under the direction of Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Fletcher. Rita was born on July 9, 1937, in Hollis to Raymond Hickman and Eunice (Mills) Estes. She graduated from Arnett High School and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University where she earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She was homecoming queen the year her husband, Glen Duncan, was captain of the football team. She married Glen Dow Duncan on August 25, 1957 in Hollis. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2007. For most of her teaching career, she worked at Sterling Elementary School. She was a member of Sterling First Baptist Church where she played piano for more than forty years. She loved gardening, watching the birds and playing with her grandchildren. Survivors include her mother; four sons and their wives, Randy and Denesia of Leander, Texas; Ron and Kathleen (Kandie) of Wichita Falls, Texas; David and Nancy of Sterling; and Darin and Sandra of Leander, Texas; a brother Ramon Estes and his wife Wanda of Amarillo, Texas; fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Dow Duncan, her father, Raymond Hickman Estes, and a grandson, Todd Daniel Duncan.
