Richard Atkins, age 71, of Kingston, OK passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 in Sherman,TX.  He was born on October 9, 1946 in Dyersburg, TN to Aubert and Beulah (West) Atkins.  Richard was a long time Lawton resident and a dedicated, hardworking member of his community. He was the Emergency Director for Comanche County, County Fire Chief, and County Safety Director. Richard also served in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was a huge sports fan, especially cheering for the Oklahoma Sooners (OU), enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and was an active member of the Masons. Richard had a great personality and loved to keep people laughing with his jokes and cherished the times he spent with his family, friends and neighbors. When you were around Richard there was never a dull moment and he could get along with anyone. According to his neighbors, when he lived in Lawton he had a garage that was usually labeled the "Sears Craftsman Warehouse" because of the large amounts of tools and equipment he had available to use. Richard was always willing to share or let his neighbors use any of the tools he owned. He was very generous and always willing to help people.

Richard is survived by two children, son, Doug Atkins and fiancé Valorie Stanley of Durant, OK, daughter, Melinda Atkins of Houston, TX, two granddaughters, Bryssa Atkins of Pauls Valley, OK and Grace Atkins of Houston, TX, step-grandson, Aaron Abbott of Durant, OK, the mother of his two children, Joy Atkins of Lawton, OK, and many friends and others he considered family.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, a twin sister, and step-mother, Lillian Atkins.
