A private graveside service for Rae O. Keck will be Friday, April 24, 2026, in Fort Sill National Cemetery.
Rae passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, March 28, 2026, in Lawton, Oklahoma, at the age of 92. She was born Reiko Oka to Japanese parents on April 28, 1933, in Manchuria, where she spent her early childhood. Following the loss of her parents at a young age, she relocated back to Japan with her siblings. As a young girl, she worked in domestic service in a private household, and later became a hair stylist. Catholic missionaries led her to her Christian faith while growing up in Japan.
She married CW4 (Ret.) Kenneth A. Keck on May 5, 1954, in Kokura City, Japan, where their first son was born. Rae faithfully supported her husband throughout his military career, moving from one duty station to another, the family growing each time, and eventually they made their final home in Lawton, Oklahoma at Fort Sill in 1964. Rae proudly became a naturalized U.S. citizen in Lawton, where she legally changed her name to Rae. She didn't consider herself Japanese American. She was proudly an American of Japanese descent. Kenneth preceded her in death on May 10, 2007.
Rae and Kenneth were blessed with seven children, and she devoted her life to her family, embracing her role as a mother, homemaker, and Army wife. She also provided care for her elderly parents(in-law) in her home until their passing, and later cared for Kenneth at home until his passing on May 10, 2007 after a long illness. Rae had a passion for gardening, and was a league bowler for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her seven children and their spouses, SSG (Ret) George K. and Kimmie Keck, James H. and Mary Keck, Barbara L. Keck, Jonathan D. and Cathy Keck, Grant L. Keck, Grace E. and Tim Simpson, and Robert W. and Shelly Keck; 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
