A service celebrating the life of Perry Lavonne Brown will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2023 in Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with Curtis W. Erwin officiating.

Perry Lavonne Brown died Monday, October 2, 2023 in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 83.  He was born on October 3, 1939, in Delight, Arkansas, to Samuel D. and Anna Jane (Price) Brown.  Perry spent his formative years in Lawton, graduating from Lawton High School in 1957. On May 16, 1959, he married Wanda Shultz in Lawton, Oklahoma. Although the couple later chose separate paths after 37 years of marriage, their bond remained strong, and they continued as close friends.

Perry embarked on a remarkable 40-year career in the grocery business, commencing with his position at Mac's Grocery in Lawton, where he eventually assumed ownership in 1965. He was also the proud owner of Lil' Mac's Convenience Stores. Early in his career, Perry attended a butcher school in Chicago, honing his skills and expertise in meat cutting—a passion he continued to indulge even after retirement by gathering with friends to cut, grind, and pack meats, all while enjoying one of Perry's delightful home-cooked meals.

Devoted to his community and profession, Perry had been a member of the Oklahoma Retail Grocer's Association and served on the Elgin School Board for two decades. Additionally, he served as a board member at the Lawton Country Club. Perry enjoyed working in his yard and garden.  He also enjoyed playing golf and meeting with friends at the local veterans' club.

He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Glenda Brown, and Chris and Schyla Brown; four grandchildren and their spouses, Courtney and Trent Willis, Tyler and Heidi Brown, Mitchell and Shelby Brittain and Dillon Wright; seven great grandchildren, Chandler, Charleston, Riley, Reagan, Calaway, Eva and Truett; as well as his former spouse, Wanda McKelvey.

His parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Judy A. and Todd Ballauer, preceded him in death.

The family wished to extend their gratitude to the staffs of McMahon Tomlinson Nursing Home and Comanche County Memorial Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lawton Public School Foundation, P.O. Box 2323, Lawton, Oklahoma 73502.
