Age 49 - Services will be at 2:30pm Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church, Snyder with Rev. Patrick McPherson, Pastor officiating. Penny passed away Friday, December 26th in Front Royal, Virginia of a sudden illness. Burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Snyder under the direction of Becker Funeral Home of Snyder. She was born January 3, 1959 in Hobart, Oklahoma to Levi and Gayl (Burton) Portwood. Penny attended Snyder Public Schools from which she graduated in 1976. While attending Snyder High School she was a member of the FFA and she showed sheep and pigs. She moved to Oklahoma City where she lived the rest of her life. She married Timothy Rex Nelson on August 3, 1994, and they had two sons, Elwyn Rex and Joshua Jacob. Penny had a life long love of dogs, cats and horses. She considered her pets to be her "babies" She loved to bake, garden, decorate for the holidays and work at her son's schools. Penny was a loyal friend who was always willing to laugh with and encourage others. She is survived by her husband and sons, her sisters, Lisa Portwood of Norman, Gina Preston and her husband Joe of Petersburg, NJ, sister-in-law Sonya Portwood of Yukon, her aunt Doris McLaury of Snyder, and numerous other nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles Burton Portwood. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairlawn Cemetery Association at PO Box 365, Snyder, OK 73566.
