Obituary

Memorial service for Peggy Lou Spencer, 87, Lawton will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Barnes, pastor of First Assembly of God officiating. Mrs. Spencer died Wednesday, January 21, 2015 in Lawton. Peggy Spencer was born at Elizabethtown, Kentucky to John William and Mildred Jane Spencer. She lived with her maternal grandparents and attended elementary classes at Chestnut Grove School in Hardin County, Kentucky, near Elizabethtown. She later moved to Indianapolis to be with her mother and graduated from Emmanuel High School in 1945. Out of high school, she began teaching ballroom dancing for Arthur Murray Studios. She then moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she continued to teach and then to Hollywood, still teaching for Arthur Murray. She met and married Glynn Wolfe, owner and operator of the Chancellor Hotel in Hollywood for many years. On divorcing, she moved to Las Vegas where she modeled and taught dancing. She was a chorus girl at the Desert Inn where she also enjoyed serving as a cigarette girl. She moved to Lawton in the sixties and was employed as a desk clerk at the Ramada Inn. In December of 1969, at 405 C Avenue, she opened her own business of women's apparel known as Peggy's Fashions. It was a very popular store for a few years but the Downtown Renewal Project forced closure of her business establishment. She then used her expertise in fashion at Dillard's at Central Mall for many years, winning many awards for her exceptional customer sales and services. During this time she began volunteering at Comanche County Memorial Hospital and eventually received her 17 year service pin, with physical disability forcing the end of her service there. Peggy loved many things, first and foremost her love of Christ. She was a proud member of First Assembly of God here in Lawton. Her second love was her family and friends whom she enjoyed so much being surrounded by. Among other things, Peggy loved playing Bingo and beating you at a great game of Dominos. She is survived by, brother and sister-in-law; Dr Jack and Beverly Spencer, Lawton, sister; Norma Jean Craig, Elizabethtown, Kentucky, four nieces and their husbands; Robyn and Mike Smith, Keen Mountain, Virginia, Sheri and David Faust, The Colony, Texas, Vicki and Jon Cloud, Lawton and Patti and Tom Colley, Oklahoma City plus numerous great and great great nieces and nephews and a very dear, devoted and loving friend, Doris Montgomery, Cache.
