Obituary

The family of Pauline H. Young, 94, Lawton, will greet friends from 5-7 pm Thursday, September 5, at the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home. Pauline H. Young died September 1, 2013, at a local nursing center after a long illness. She will be buried with her husband, LTC (Ret) John C. Young at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Pauline Phyllis Harrold was born February 27, 1919, in "the northwest bedroom" at 320 B Ave, Lawton, to Lawton pioneers James Altman Harrold and Margarett Elizabeth (Updegrove) Harrold. Her father owned the Lawton Bus & Baggage Co. and maintained a stable of harness racing horses. Before marriage, her mother had been Chief Operator at the Pioneer Telephone Co. Pauline attended Emerson Elementary School, Lawton High School (Class of '37) and Cameron Junior College. She married Foster C. Swindell and to them was born Phyllis Ann. They later divorced and she married John C. Young, who adopted Phyllis Ann. She was an executive secretary, contract specialist and homemaker, depending on residence location. She traveled throughout Europe and the Middle East during her married years. She was never without a pet dog - from Ribbon through Abby. She is survived by her daughter Phyllis Ann Young of the home, nephew and wife, Stephen Harrold Tedder and Lynn (Tulsa, OK); brother-in-law Don L. Tedder (Lawton); sister-in-law Beryl Harrold and niece Virginia O'Brien (Morrisonville, NY); stepchildren Jonathan Clay Young (Sherwood, AR), Rodney Thomas Young (Grand Prairie, TX) and Phyllis Joann (Young) DePriest (Byhalia, MS) and a niece and nephews from the previous marriage - Christene Wampler, Joe Mathes and Kenneth Mathes (Comanche, OK), and Roger Matthews (Manhattan, KS). She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister Helen June (Harrold) Tedder, brother James Altman Harrold, Jr., nephew David Stewart Harrold and step-daughter Linda (Young) Koehn. Special thoughts and thanks go to Dorothy Alberty, Pauline's devoted caregiver, and to the nursing staff at McMahon-Tomlinson Nursing Center and at Promise Care Hospice. All gave her their courtesy, consideration and care.
