Obituary

Funeral service for Paula Griswold, 87, Lawton, will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013 in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with Terry Marsh officiating. Mrs. Griswold died Monday, April 22, in Lawton. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Paula Griswold was born in Oftersheim, Germany on February 13, 1926 to Adam Vobis and Anna Seitz. She attended and graduated from Oftersheim High School. After high school she attended a secretarial trade school and worked at the courthouse in Oftersheim. She met SFC Johnnie Bell during WWII in Germany and they were married in 1951. From this marriage, two children were born, twin girls, Janet and Linda. In 1959 they were transferred to Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Following his retirement in 1963, they owned and operated the Prairie Inn Motel, Club and Restaurant. In 1971, she married John Griswold. Together they owned a construction company. During their years together, they traveled extensively and relished in outdoor activities. Paula loved to go fishing and especially snow skiing. She also loved to square dance and even enjoyed bowling. Saturday night was her favorite night because that is when she would go to the VFW with all her friends for a big night of dancing and companionship. In 2008 Paula suffered a stroke which curtailed many of her activities. Physically, she was unable to do what she loved to do. Loving her family was an activity that her physical abilities could not deprive her of. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren like only an OMA could. Her family was the joy of her life. Paula was a member of the German-American Club, Square Dance Club and the VFW Auxiliary. She is survived by her twin daughters, Janet Lepien and her husband Matt and Linda Kelly and her husband John, all of Lawton; grandchildren, Brandon Cousins, Shanna Crain, Stacy Sharp and Erin Hayes, Jake Sharp and his wife Lisa, all of Lawton and Jason Clifford, Kansas; great grandchildren, Tyler Spellman, Kaitlyn and Hadley Crain, Stone and Kole Sharp, Turner and Dawson Clifford; nephews, Klaus Hoppner, Lawton, and Rolf Laliberte and wife Loretta, Colorado; former step daughters, Debbie Griswold and Kay Hutton and her husband Mac; several nieces and nephews residing in Germany and the many friends she leaves behind. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Johnnie Bell and John Griswold. A special thanks to the staff at Cedar Crest Nursing Home for the five years of loving care, especially Roxie and Bonita. Memorial contributions may be made to Promise Care Hospice, 4202 SW Lee Blvd., Lawton OK 73505.
