Funeral service for Patricia Ann Tallent Young, 54, Lawton, will be at 1:30pm Monday, November 5, 2012 in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Eric Sharum, Minister of University Church of Christ, Lawton officiating. Mrs. Young died Thursday, November 1, 2012 at her home following a lengthy illness. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Lawton, under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service. There will be open visitation for friends and family at the funeral home until service time on Monday. Patricia was born January 10, 1958 in Tokyo, Japan to Walter and Misako "Mickie" (Chiba) Tallent. She married Richard Young, Jr. on September 23, 1978 in Lawton. Patricia was a school teacher with Lawton Public Schools. She graduated from Cameron University with a BS in Elementary Education in 1981, from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a Master's of Education in Special Education in 1994, and from the University of Oklahoma with a Master's of Education in Administration and Curriculum Supervision in 1996. She taught third grade at Jefferson Elementary School from 1981-1982, Hoover Elementary, where she was a Special Education teacher of emotionally disturbed students from 1987-2000, and she was the Itinerant Special Education teacher of the learning disabled from 2001-2003 at MacArthur Middle School. She continued to teach at various Lawton Schools until 2007, when she retired due to health reasons. She had established a resource program to meet the needs of middle school special education students to transition to the regular classroom. She served on the LPS District grant writing committee and the curriculum Alignment committee. Patricia was listed in the 2004-2005 "Who's Who among America's Teachers". Patricia lived for her family, and she loved spending time with her loving husband, children and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband Richard of the home, her parents, Walter and Mickie Tallent of Lawton, a daughter Kathryn Nichols of Lawton, son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Laci Young of Leavenworth, KS, seven grandchildren, Nick Young, Brad Young, Jackson Nichols, Aidan Booker-Young, Keagan Booker-Young, Brooklyn Young, Peyton Young, and a brother, Doug Tallent of Yukon, OK. Patricia is also survived by a large extended family including several nieces, one nephew, numerous cousins and friends. The family asks that any memorial donations be made to any Pet Rescue or Adoption Service.
