Obituary

Funeral for Opal Nell Bruce, 81, Lawton will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, at Trinity Assembly of God with Rev. Lloyd Grubbs, pastor officiating. Mrs. Bruce died Saturday, January 07, 2012 in Lawton. Burial will be in Letitia Cemetery, east of Lawton under the direction of Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service. She was born April 11, 1930 in Wilburton, Oklahoma to Phineas P. and Mozelle (Dameron) Parks. She married Weldon Bruce on September 21, 1947 in Kingman, Arizona. He died November 7, 2011. Opal was first and foremost a child of God, with an extremely close personal relationship to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As the daughter of a Pentecostal preacher, she served God and attended church most of her life. By her example of selfless love and care for others, she taught her daughters to love as Christ commands in His word. She was a hard working wife and mother as she was an immaculate house keeper and performed maintenance on her house, her daughter's house and fifteen apartments that she and Weldon owned at one time. All who knew her respected her meekness, devotion to God and her incomparable sweet nature. Her entire life was spent trying to please Christ or others with whom she had contact. She will be sorely and profoundly missed by those whose lives she touched, especially her daughter, son-in-law, grandchild and great grandchildren. However, she leaves us with a desire to serve God not only because he loved us first, but so that we will meet her again someday. She is survived by her daughter, Belinda Larie Macks and her husband Jerry Don, grandson, Weldon Bryce, two great grandsons, Bryce William Don and Austin Wade, all of Lawton, a sister, Mary Ann Spangler and her husband Alton, Pittsburg, California, sister-in-law, Janice Bruce and a brother-in-law, Darrell Bruce and his wife Helen, all of Lawton and many nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter, Carolyn Sue Bruce, three brothers, Garnet, Tutti and Paul Parks and two sisters, May Evans and Florene Cotham.
