Age 99, former Snyder resident - Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday in the Church of Christ, Snyder, with Ron Suiter, Minister, officiating. Mrs. Thorp died Friday in Temple, Texas. Burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home of Snyder. She was born on October 5, 1908 in Clovis, New Mexico to Gilbert Hampton and Margaret Looper Shankle. She married James Otho Thorp in 1925 and they lived southeast of Snyder. He died on December 23, 1944. In 1995, she moved to Texas to live with her daughter. Survivors include four children, Janell Solomon and Dee of Cameron, Texas, Weldon Thorp and Juanita of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Eldon Thorp and Marilyn of Huntington Beach, California, and James Thorp and Kay of Van Cleave, Michigan; 13 grandchildren, Cindy Avery of Little River, Texas, Larry Wofford and Cathy of Austin, Texas, Kay Bumpass of Waco, Texas, Ranae Six and Vern of Fort Worth, Texas, Dr. Max Schubert of Temple, Texas, Talaisa Tucker and Roger of Amarillo, Texas, Benton Thorp of Snyder, Mavis Compagno and Vince of Peach Tree City, Georgia, Edward Thorp and Imelda of San Pedro, California, Mena Smith and David of Amarillo, Texas, Pam Walley and Dave of Theodore, Alabama, James Thorp and Robert Thorp, both of Van Cleave, Michigan; a sister, Mickey Wallis of Santa Fe, Texas; 26 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband, a son, Gilbert Dewayne; a grandson, Weldon, Jr.; four sisters, Hazel Englett, Millie Newton, Joey Schwarz and Minnie Mullins, preceded her in death.
