Obituary

Funeral service for Odell Breeze, 85, Lawton, will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 6 at the Centenary United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Baden, Dr. Norma Quinn and Rev. Jim Roberts officiating. Mr. Breeze died Friday, November 1, in Lawton. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home. Mr. Breeze was born Nov. 26, 1927, in Carter, to Andrew and Clara Breeze. He grew up in Duke, Okla.; Southland, Texas; and Snyder, Okla. He was a 1947 graduate of Snyder High School and later attended Cameron State Agricultural College. He played football in high school and later at Cameron. He married LoReta Willis on March 7, 1949, in Lawton, Okla. He began a lifelong career in the grocery business as a sacker at the age of 14. While attending college, he worked for Steve Hillis at Steve's Master Foods. He later worked for Piggly-Wiggly in Slaton, Texas, in 1949 and Big Spring, Texas, in 1950 as an assistant manager. He went to work for Herbs Red Bud in Lawton from 1951-1974 as a manager. Then, he bought and operated Big Giant Grocery at 4405 W. Gore Blvd. from 1976-1994, and purchased Discount Foods at 1311 W. Lee Blvd. in 1984, remaining involved with the business until the time of his death. He was a member of the Oklahoma Retail Grocers Association and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Snyder. While he was able, he enjoyed hunting and, at one time, raised English bulldogs. However, his real passion was supporting his children and grandchildren in their athletic endeavors. He coached B.C. Swinney Little League Baseball for many years while his sons played. He was a longtime supporter of Lawton Public Schools athletic teams and did what he could to help those less fortunate than him. He made sure every child that rode a bike up to his home or the grocery store who had a broken chain got it fixed, and if they had a baseball glove that needed to be restrung, he gave them a loaner glove until he could get theirs fixed. Mr. Breeze always had a good joke at the ready for anyone he encountered, whether it was a friend, a customer at his store, or a person he had to roll down the window to talk to at a stoplight. He is survived by his wife, of the home; four children and their spouses: Randy and Brenda Breeze, Rocky and Kristin Breeze and Robin and Mike Heinen, all of Lawton, and Rodney and Deanie Breeze of Snyder; six grandchildren: Ryan Breeze and wife Sara, Renee Breeze, Trail Breeze and wife A.J., Bethany Heinen and fiancé Elijah Morlett, Sunni Breeze and Emmalee Heinen; one great-granddaughter, Raegan Breeze; two brothers: Lowell Breeze of Snyder and Gary Breeze and wife Bonnie of Mountain Park, Okla; brother-in-law, Wyndell Morton of Vernon, Texas He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Coyle Breeze; and a sister, LaDean Morton.
