Norene L. Hamilton, 93, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025, in Lawton, Oklahoma. She was born on April 27, 1932, in Twitty, Texas, to Norman and Arllie Mae (Ellis) Lindsey.
Norene was raised in Olustee, Oklahoma, where she graduated from high school in 1950. Shortly thereafter, on June 1, 1950, she married Elvin Kemp Hamilton in Olustee. They shared many years together until his passing on March 30, 1983.
Over the years, Norene worked at the Lawton Teachers Federal Credit Union and Phillips Aubrey Chevrolet, but she spent the majority of her professional career with Northrop.
A devoted member of Cameron Baptist Church since 1950, Norene served faithfully in many capacities. She was a Sunday School teacher, choir member (for over 60 years), and church historian. She also co-founded the singles ministry and helped establish the divorce care ministry.
In addition to her church involvement, Norene had been a member of the Lawton Business and Professional Women's Club and served as a docent at the historic Mattie Beal Home.
Norene was a very multi-talented woman; she "wore many hats". She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a good teacher. She did not get to go to college, but she taught Bible Study classes for many decades. (She did have the opportunity to substitute teach a couple of times in the public schools.)
Norene was a caring counselor as shown by her involvement with Divorce Care at the church. She was an empathetic listener, but would also step forward and give guidance in a stern, but always loving manner.
She was an accomplished artist with a needle and thread. Many times, she created outfits for herself and her two daughters. Once she placed Betty on the floor and traced around her body on a large sheet of butcher paper. She then proceeded to create a dress for her that was as good as anything found at Montgomery Wards.
Norene was also very musically gifted. While in high school, she played the piano for the elementary school rhythm band. She sang for many, many weddings and funerals until she was well into her sixties.
She is survived by her children, Troy Hamilton, Lawton, Debra Hamilton Tahbonemah (and husband Philip), Lawton, and Betty Hamilton Lyles (and husband Scott), Venice, Florida; daughter-in-law, Denise Hamilton, Lawton; her twin sister, Florene Brewer, Altus, Oklahoma; her brother, Harold Lindsey, Altus; 11 grandchildren, Amanda Rundle, Evan Hamilton, Joshua Lopes, Lindsey Henley (and husband Aaron), Samantha Jordan, Lucas Tahbonemah, Matthew Lyles (and wife Moriya), Lauren Lyles, Rachel Lyles, Malka Lyles and Leah Lyles; ten great grandchildren, Gracie, Matthew, Ethan, Cooper, Owen, Ty, Cole, Coyote, Luxe and Nathaniel; as well as other extended family.
Her parents, husband, a son, Roy C. Hamilton, an infant daughter, Patricia Ann Hamilton, and a sister, Marilyn Wooley, preceded her in death.
A special "Thank You" to all of those in home health and hospice who helped with her care.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cameron Baptist Church 2621 SW C Avenue, Lawton, Oklahoma 73505.
