Robert Wells, 74, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home on August 30, 2024, after battling many years of a chronic illness. Robert was born on November 10, 1949, in Swainsboro, Georgia, to Riley Wells Sr. and Dora Mae McNear. After graduating from Emanuel County High School in Swainsboro, Georgia, in 1968, he entered the US Army in 1970. He retired as Master Sergeant after more than 20 years of service. After his retirement from the military, he continued his employment at Billingsley Ford, then Lawton Correctional Facility, and later, Pusan Korean Restaurant.
On March 26, 1993, Robert married Young Sook Lee. Together, they adopted two children, Bethany and Ashley Wells. In 1994, they opened a small Korean restaurant, the Bulgogi House. After it closed in 2000, they opened a family-owned restaurant, Pusan Korean Restaurant, where they worked until its closing in 2019. Over the years, the restaurant and children kept them busy. When Robert became ill, Young faithfully cared for and supported him throughout. The two remained happily married until his passing.
Robert was a devoted Christian and a diligent, hard-working man. He enjoyed the simple things in life, like trips to the fishing pond, cooking, working on cars and fixing things with his hands, and watching Dallas Cowboys football. Robert loved his family dearly. One of his greatest joys was being able to spend time with them and with his friends. He was a long-standing member of Cameron Baptist Church, where he loved to sing in the church choir. Those who knew him knew he was fiercely passionate about telling others about Christ, something he could be found doing even toward the end of his life. Despite his long struggles with health issues, Robert will be remembered for his love for Christ and his family, his sense of humor, and his positive attitude, which he retained until the end. While we will miss him tremendously, we take comfort in knowing he is now fully healed and in the presence of his heavenly Father.
The family wishes to express our gratitude to Jumok Bottoms, PA, the staff of Lawton/Ft. Sill VA, Elara Caring, Visiting Angels, and the many others who assisted in providing our dad's care, comfort, and friendship over the years. Your service and compassion will always be remembered.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Riley and Dora Mae, and three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Young Sook; sister, Dorothy Glanton (Robert-deceased) of Bartow, Florida; brother, Riley Wells Jr. (Irene-deceased) of Brooksville, Florida; brother, John Wells (Patricia) of Clermont, Florida; and children, James Wells (Shayla) of Springfield, Virginia, Melinda Fisher (Douglas) of Norman, Oklahoma, Bethany Wells, and Ashley Wells of Anaheim, California; as well as four grandchildren, Samuel Fisher, Noah Fisher, Simon Fisher, and Taya Wells.
