Obituary

A funeral service for Mitzie Marie Ford, 85, Lawton, will be at 11:00 am Monday, September 12, at Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

Mitzie was called to the Lord on Friday, September 2, 2016. Her passing was peaceful.

Burial will be at Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Jack D. Ford, retired Command Sergeant Major.

Mitzie was born Aug. 5 1931 in Rocky Ford, OK to parents Rufus and Hazel Trammell and was raised on a farm in Agwam OK.  She graduated from Ninnekah High School where she was a star basketball player. In 1951, she met and married Jack D. Ford, a soldier in the Army, and they began their life adventure together moving all over the world. While Jack moved up through the ranks, Mitzie kept things working at home. As the years passed, Mitzie's roles and responsibilities grew.  First with the arrival of Mitzie Jo, their daughter on April 11, 1953 in Fort Hood, TX and then Tony, their son on April 28, 1955 in Japan.

As years and duty stations passed, Mitzie became a master at planning how the family would uproot and replant itself again and again. Over two decades, she successfully resettled the kids in school, packed and unpacked their homes and generally kept order in Japan, Arkansas, Hawaii, Texas, Germany, and Oklahoma. As Jack took on more leadership duties as a Command Sergeant Major, Mitzie became responsible for teaching and nurturing the wives of the junior NCO's under his command.  In 1973, after 31 years of service, they retired in Lawton, OK.

Mitzie enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with friends and family.  She especially enjoyed her three grandsons, Eliot Stockard, Michael Ford and Daniel Ford.

She is survived by daughter, Mitzie Jo Stockard of Lawton, OK, son, Tony Ford and wife Jane of Fort Worth, TX, grandsons Eliot and wife Amanda of Arlington, Texas, Michael Ford of Fort Collins, CO, Daniel Ford and wife Kristin of Bellingham, WA and sisters, Betty Jo Gann of Edmond, OK and Juanita Morris of Huntsville, AL.

Mitzie was preceded in death by her husband Jack D. Ford and three brothers, Virgil Trammell, Arnold Trammell, and Maynard Trammell.

The family will greet friends from 10:00 to 10:45 on Monday morning prior to the 11:00 service at Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.  Following internment at Post Cemetery there will be a reception. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Lawton Humane Society, at www.lawtonhumanesociety.org .

Mitzie devoted her life in service to her husband, family and country. She will be greatly missed.
