Obituary

Age 99, Lawton - Funeral services will be at 10:00am Tuesday at the First Assembly of God with Rev. Don Barnes, Senior Pastor officiating. Mrs. Hood died Saturday in a Lawton hospital. Burial will be in the Paradise Valley Cemetery, North of Lawton under the direction of Becker Funeral Home. Rosie was born November 10, 1910 in Stephens County, Oklahoma to Herman L. and Mary Frances Johnson. She was the oldest of seven children. She married George E. Hood on January 31, 1925. He died December 4, 1976. Of this marriage they had one child, J. Faye Hood Easterling. A talented seamstress, Rosie worked at Fort Sill for many years, retiring from civil service in 1966. She continued to sew for herself and others for many years after retirement until her eyesight failed. Not only was she a talented seamstress, she was a great cook, known for her "Rosie Burgers", coconut pies and nutty chocolate cakes. Married to an avid fisherman, she also put on a great fish fry for friends and family. A longtime member of First Assembly of God, Rosie loved going to church and was saddened when she was unable to attend as regularly as she would have liked. She helped with many dinners and events at the church, as well as helping make curtains and table covers when the new church opened in 1989. Gospel music was one of her favorite things to listen to, and she enjoyed watching Bill Gaither Homecoming programs. She is survived by her two grandchildren, Steve Easterling and Ann Easterling both of Lawton, niece Judith Raef of Fort Smith, AR, niece Anita Tilden of Amarillo, TX, Niece Wanda Faye Johnson of Las Vegas, NV, brother-in-law Jim Gilliam of Lawton, nephew Bill Gilliam of Lawton, nephew Truman Williams of Elgin, nephew Kenneth Hood of Fletcher and a nephew Harold Williams of Cache. She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, husband and her daughter. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Assembly of God Building Fund.
