Burial will be in Pecan Cemetery, Southwest of Lawton, under the direction of the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home. The family will greet friends 6-8 pm, Tuesday, June 18 at the funeral home. Mildred was born July 28, 1929 Southwest of Geronimo, Oklahoma to Ernest L. and Mary Ola (Cofer) Stair. She attended elementary schools in Ada, Oklahoma, San Antonio, Texas, and Logue Chapel and New Hope. She spent all of her high school years at Faxon, Oklahoma and graduated third in her class and received her diploma in 1947. While in high school, Mildred was a starting player on the varsity basketball team and won the Comanche County typing contest. She also enjoyed running around town with her girlfriends and eventually met the love of her life, Harrison King. They married in Lawton, Oklahoma on April 10, 1948. Mildred was a very supportive stay-at-home farm wife at the dairy where she assisted with daily chores and was a good milk hand. In the next few years, they had three children of their own and welcomed two foster children into their loving home where she provided all with homemade meals and handmade clothing which she became known for outside of the home. She was very involved in the children's school years as a room mother, class-parent, 4-H volunteer, PTA president, and FHA club mother. She was a successful leader and always connected with the children involved in the activities. She was an avid reader and lifetime learner and enjoyed helping her children with their coursework into their secondary education. Mildred and Harrison were privileged to travel abroad and in the United States with the dairy business multiple times. In later life, she pursued her interests in calligraphy, crafting and writing. During these years, she provided her local church, family and friends with her beautiful artwork. She instilled her love of arts and crafts into her children and grandchildren and could frequently be seen working at the kitchen table. Much time was spent with the grandchildren, including trips to visit them, trips taken across the country, and a very special trip accompaniment to Canada. Always curious to learn new skills, she took a computer course through Great Plains Technology Center and began to write about memories from her childhood and adventures in her daily life for the County Times. She is survived by her husband of the home, Harrison King; three children, Joe King and his wife Jane, Lawton, Nancy and her husband Larry Henard, Wellington, Texas, and David King, Lawton; eight grandchildren, Amy Henard, Amarillo, Texas, Chelsey and her husband Jeffrey Simpson, Brooklyn, New York, Jill and her husband CPT Nick Varner, McGuire AFB, New Jersey, Hailey King, Durango, Colorado, Arielle King, Keller, Texas, Tessa Henard, Temple Texas, Jonathan King, Austin, Texas and Kimberly King, Lawton; a great grandson, Harrison Varner; and a sister, Pat Davidson, Mercedes, Texas. Her parents, and a brother, Ernest Lee Stair, Jr. preceded her in death.
