Obituary

Celebration of Life for Mildred "Dee" Diane Voss, 71, Lawton will be at 10:30am Thursday in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with SGT C.H. Brazzel, Lawton Police Department and Lana Robertson, , Little Rock, AR officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. On Friday, September 4, 2015, Dee was surrounded by family when she took her last breath in this temporary home on Earth and Heaven opened the gates to gain the most precious angel ever. She was born January 16, 1944 in Henryetta, OK to Loraine and Charlie Bynum. She attended Whittier Elementary, Tomlinson Junior High and graduated from Lawton High School in 1961. She married Clifford Victor Voss, Jr. in 1962 and was later divorced. She joined the Lawton Police Department in September of 1966 as Clerk-Matron and later served as Criminal Clerk and statistician assistant. In 1977 she was assigned to patrol as an officer. Dee received Officer of the Year in 1980. Her motto on the force was "Life is too short, you can't change anything that happened yesterday, you don't know what will happen tomorrow, and you only have today to make the most and give it your all". In 1986 Dee moved to Dallas with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Investigation Division. In 1991 she was offered a position with FDIC large bank investigations and received several awards. She worked for the US and the District Attorney's Office while in Dallas. She had the gift of gab, and knew how to talk the talk and walk the walk. In 1996 Dee moved to Idabel, OK and worked with the USDA Farm Service Department providing low interest loans to farmers. She later relocated to Denton, TX and joined the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In 2000 she was offered a position with the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons in the Security and Background Investigations Department in Dallas. Dee retired from Government service in December 2005 and moved to Lawton to be closer to family. If you were lucky enough to be one of Dee's friends, you were a friend for life. She always tried to make people laugh and was generous to a fault. If you were having a bad day she would try to make you laugh. Dee didn't have a real hobby, she went fishing and water skiing with family when she was younger and loved to go the firing range. She loved to dance and was always designated driver for her friends who wanted to drink. At times she acted drunk with her friends, while only drinking tea. After her retirement she enjoyed watching police shows on TV. Dee is survived by her sister Helen Mazzo, nephew Mike Mazzo and wife Sara and their children Evan and Ryan of Lawton, OK, niece Lynn Arndt and husband Chris of Haslet, TX, great niece Megan Gilmore and husband Brock and their children Tony and Seth of Fort Worth, TX, her very dear friend Lana Robertson of Little Rock, AR and her 2 beloved cats, Callie and Ida. She was preceded in death by her best friend and wonderful mother Loraine and her fishing buddy, her father Charlie. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Humane Society; 9300 N May Ave., Suite 400-281, OKC, OK 73120 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
