Michelle Chamness, 57, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at her home in Lawton. Michelle was born September 24, 1966, in Selma, Alabama, to Levon and Melanie (Skrivanek) Harrison. She grew up working for her father at an auto dealership, where she excelled as a car salesperson. In her younger years, she also worked in retail.
On May 24, 1991, Michelle married MAJ (Retired) Robert "Bob" Chamness at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. As a dedicated Army wife, she supported her husband and the military community in various ways. Michelle served as a dental hygienist for the Army and later worked as a first-grade teacher's aide at St. Mary's Catholic School in Lawton.
Michelle was an avid gardener who loved tending to her yard and watering her plants. She was a passionate OU Sooner sports fan and enjoyed physical fitness, hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling in their RV. She was very active in her church, serving on the creative and decorating teams and as an usher and greeter.
Michelle will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a special person who could always be counted on by her neighbors to watch their children, take care of their yards, or collect their mail while they were away. Her generous spirit and warm heart left a lasting impact on everyone around her.
One of Michelle's favorite Bible passages was,
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." (NASB2020 Galatians 5:22-23)
Michelle is survived by her husband of the home, daughter, Katy Chamness of Oklahoma City, her parents of Lawton, Oklahoma, brother, Richard Harrison and wife Elizabeth of Panama City, Florida, mother-in-law, Frieda Chamness of Bourbonnais, Illinois, sister-in-law, Debi Rantz and husband Donald of Beaverville, Illinois and other family members including her beloved dog, Silo.
Michelle is preceded in death by her father-in-law.
