Mike peacefully passed away the evening of Thursday June 12, 2025, after a brief, yet courageous, battle with pancreatic cancer. Mike was born March 3, 1952, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, to Roy and Edith (Coppenbarger) Moore. Mike attended Taft Elementary, Central Junior High, and Lawton Senior High School. During his time at Lawton High, Mike excelled both academically, as well as athletically, earning a spot on the All-State baseball team as a catcher. After high school Mike attended Cameron University on a baseball scholarship where he received his bachelor's degree in mathematics and a minor in history and physical education. Mike began his teaching and coaching career at Temple High School in 1974. While in Temple, Mike met his bride to be, Sylvia Smith. They married on March 20, 1976. This union brought two children, Stephanie and Scott and four grandchildren. Later that year they relocated to Lawton, Oklahoma, where Mike began teaching and coaching at MacArthur High School. Mike taught math and coached football and baseball while at MHS until July of 2013, at which time he accepted the Athletic Director position for Lawton Public Schools until his retirement in June of 2017. In addition to teaching and coaching, Mike was actively involved with the Oklahoma Coaches Association, was an Oklahoma football coaching representative for three years, and active with the Lawton Athletic Foundation, including serving on the board. While at MHS Mike started the MHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes Huddle in 1976, a tradition still going on today. Mike is a published author, having five articles featured in various athletic director magazines. After retirement Mike found new passions such as photography, cooking and grilling, and traveling with his wife. Mike's happiest memories were watching his grandchildren in all their activities. He stayed active with the MacArthur football program taking pictures, writing articles, and keeping the stats record book for football. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sylvia Moore; daughter Stephanie Vaughn (Bo) and his son Scott Moore (Blaklea) and grandchildren, AJ Vaughn, Madison, Jensen, and Peyton Moore; sister, Linda (Trevor) Whitworth; nephews, Cory, Adam (Meridith) Whitworth and great niece, Madeline Whitworth. He also leaves behind many friends and extended family.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Edith Moore.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lawton Athletic Foundation.
