Melissa Anne Moore, 55, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, October 4. 2021
"Missy" was born in December 1965 to LTC Richard W. Chapman and Donna Christine Chapman. Born into an Army family, her first home was on Fort Sill, where she was the youngest of four children, having two sisters and a brother.
As a child, along with her family, she enjoyed horseback riding and social activities at the Fort Sill Artillery Hunt Club. Many happy memories were made there and talked about to this day, such as the monthly Hunt Breakfasts at the Polo Club and annual Christmas Caroling Rides. Missy attended Lawton High School where she was a member of the LHS Highsteppers. Following her graduation in 1984, she attended both the University of Oklahoma and Cameron University, where her focus was on studying sciences.
Writing poetry was one of Missy's favorite pastimes and she was quite good at it. She enjoyed reading and traveling. She appreciated nature and loved animals and every spring looked forward to watching the birds nest right outside her window.
Missy was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, during the bad times as well as the good. Her favorite players changed over the years, but not her favorite team.
From a young age, she was a fierce competitor when it came to board games, often winning at Scrabble, which was her family's go-to game. A Trivial Pursuit Family Challenge one Christmas proved to be victorious for Missy and her teammate (lucky for the partner, Missy was a treasure trove of answers).
Missy always loved working because it gave her a sense of purpose and accomplishment. Her last place of employment was Ross Stores where she worked for many years.
Missy enjoyed looking through magazines and searching the internet for recipes. She was more fond of looking than cooking, and was even fonder of eating a meal someone else had prepared. According to Missy, you couldn't go wrong with Alaskan king crab legs, French onion soup, and Vernor's ginger ale.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband, David, and by her grandparents, Elaine and Don, and Alice and Chappy.
She is survived by her four children, Peyton, Cain, Kayla, Keegan; by one grandson, Everett; Kayla and Keegan's dad, Shane and his wife Nicole; by her three siblings, Vicki and husband, Steve; Steve and wife, Patricia; Candra and husband, Mike; her nieces and nephews, Keely, Genevieve and husband Tom, Meredith and husband Patrick, Dana, Eleanor, Will, and Haley; by her great-nephews, Hudson, Eli, and Cal; great-niece Harlow; by her Uncle Jerry and Aunt Sue, and Aunt CJ; and by her cousins, Holly, Kelly, Chris, and Petra.
