Burial will follow at Chattanooga Cemetery under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at the funeral home.
Melba, age 79, of Faxon, arrived at her heavenly home on Sunday, March 12, 2017. She was born March 6, 1938 in Frederick, Oklahoma to Howard Shaw and Della Mae Taylor. Melba graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1956. She was a very active member of the community, joining the Good Cheer Extension Group in the 60's and participating in numerous projects. The County Fair was always a priority. She won many blue ribbons for her fabric entries-clothes, pillows, and quilts.
Melba was a gifted seamstress capable of creating anything out of fabric. She lovingly made clothing from casual clothes, beginning with her own clothes, then to her children, and grandchildren. She was an expert making prom dresses, wedding gowns, and complete bridal party dresses.
She loved to quilt. Her precise seams and tiny quilting stitches were amazing. Many quilts were lovingly made and given as gifts to friends and family. For high school graduation, grandchildren received a handmade queen sized quilt from their Nana. They also have special baby quilts, including one for Great-Granddaughter Caslyn.
Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild were her life. She attended all events for each child, even making a college graduation and high school state baseball game in the same day! Family and friends eagerly anticipated her Nana sugar cookies, made each Valentine's Day.
Melba was a homemaker until her children were married. An opportunity arose and she went to work at Fabric Things, followed by Comanche County Farm Bureau, and later to Cameron University Alumni Office, retiring in 2005.
She was an active member of Chattanooga Bapt. Church, serving on several committees.
Melba was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Charles Wood; sister-in-law, Lorinda Taylor; brother-in-law, Whit Bartholomew; sister-in-law, Vi Hawkins and husband Bill; brother-in-law, Bill Sanders; son-in-law, Wesley Logue.
Survivors include her two daughters, Cindy Logue; Mechelle Francis and husband Doug; son Mark Wood and wife Cathy. Grandchildren Casey Logue and wife Lindsay, Courtney Tompkins and husband Jason, Keaton Francis, Taylor Francis, Dustin Wood, and one great-granddaughter, Caslyn Logue. One Sister, Shaw Bartholomew; one brother, Ken Taylor and wife Kay; brother-in-law, Bob Wood and wife Goldie Mae; sister-in-law, Glada Sanders; along with numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
