Maureen Curran - known to many as Mo - was born on January 27, 1958, in Troy, New York to Paul Riley, Jr. and Beverly M. Riley (Deso). She passed away surrounded by her husband and "Fur-babies" on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the age of 68.

Maureen's family moved to Lawton when her father was stationed at Fort Sill. She attended Edison Elementary, Eisenhower Jr. High and Eisenhower Sr. High graduating in 1976. She attended Cameron University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.

Maureen met Kevin during the summer of 1976. They were married in 1980 and spent their time together enjoying numerous adventures.

After graduating from Cameron, she began working at Telos as an Editor and eventually becoming a Training Analyst installing military systems for the National Guard Units throughout the United States and other countries overseas.

After completing her career at Telos, she and her friend, Jim Noyes, established Antique Adventures and opened an antique store in Lawton.

At the same time, she found the passion of her life. She began working with Animal Rescues in Oklahoma and other states rescuing animals from various state shelters. She would work with the animal rescues transporting the animal to the rescues allowing the animals to find their "Fur-Ever" homes. She very seldom saw an animal which she felt could not be rescued. She would work diligently to place as many as she could. She is a respected member of the Animal Rescue community in Oklahoma and the country.

She became the "Volunteer" Volunteer Coordinator at the Lawton Animal Welfare Shelter. She would assist in the recruitment and training of volunteers to work at the shelter assisting the shelter staff. She would also coordinate with the Officer Training personnel at Ft. Sill when they would like to volunteer to walk and take care of the animals at the shelter. During this time, she established many friendships at the shelter.

She worked diligently during the shelter "Two Hearts" adoption campaigns, the Santa Paws Christmas campaign, the Cops and Kids Adoption Events, the Lawton Christmas Parade, the Walk a Dog events at Cameron during finals and numerous other adoption events.

Maureen's passion and dedication the animals have allowed for hundreds of "Fur-babies" to find their "Fur-ever" homes.

She was awarded the 2017 Outstanding Woman of Comanche County Award presented by the Mayor's Commission on the Status of Women Lawton-Ft. Sill.

In August of 2025, she received the Mayoral Citation from the city of Lawton for extraordinary service and unwavering dedication to the Lawton Animal Shelter for over 14 years.

She was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and won numerous awards at AQHA Shows. She was proud of the various accomplishments and awards that she and her horses received. Her horse, Hes So Cool, was a World Champion at the 1995 American Buckskin Registry Association World Show and a finalist at the 1996 AQHA World Show.

Maureen was preceded in death by her father, Paul R. Riley, Jr; her mother Beverly M Riley and her brother Kevin M. Riley.

She is survived by her husband Kevin Curran; her Uncle Robert Riley and his wife Eileen.

Her nephew, Bob Riley and his children Adam and Andrew, her niece, Courtney Goyer and her daughter Natalie.
