On Thursday, December 11, 2025, Heaven gained a beautiful new soul! That's the day our mother, Mary Watson, gained her angel wings and went to be with the Lord.
When we were notified that our mother was being discharged from the hospital, we were excited that she would be home in time for Christmas, but when we said home, we were thinking of her home in Cache, but the Lord wanted her home in Heaven. It's sad for those of us left behind, but we also rejoice in knowing that our mother is no longer in pain. and she can once again see the love of her life; our father, Cleve Watson, who passed away two years ago.
Our mother was a mother to many. Most knew her as either mom or grandma. People just gravitated to her kindness and warmth. She was always willing to help anyone in need. She became known as mom or grandma not only to her own children and grandchildren, but to many who seeked her comfort and kindness. She was a gentle, loving soul. Family was the most important thing to her. More important than money or material possessions. Family was her everything, sometimes you see the coffee cups that say, "world's number one mom or dad". We can honestly say that we were Blessed to have the world's number one mom.
Mom always made sure that we had what we needed. She worked as a manager for AAFES and American Greetings in Germany. Then she worked at the dining facility at Fort Sill. After a while, she decided to open her own business and went into childcare. This is where she was happiest because she was doing something she loved, caring for children. All the kids called her grandma. They loved her. She was also generous and compassionate. When her clients couldn't pay for childcare service, she would still help them and let them pay her later or sometimes they didn't pay at all, and she would still help them. Her heart was as big as the sun. She raised not only her own kids but helped to raise her children's kids. Mom was a mom to the end. Even as we became adults, mom would still throw us birthday parties. She loved us very much, but she would also correct us when we needed it. Even as adults, if we were wrong, she would let us know in order to help guide us in the right direction.
She was also a loving and devoted wife. She was Blessed to have been with her one and only love, Cleve Watson, for over fifty years before he passed away in 2023. Mom and dad were great role models for us and had a love that many of us could only dream of. Dad was in the military, so it was mom's strength and courage that kept everything together on the home front when dad was away. As most of you know, the wife of a Soldier serves too. We're sure it wasn't easy, but her strength and resilience made it seem easy.
Mom was also a devout Christian and a praying mom. She served as the Second Lady at Macedonia Baptist Church in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma for many years. She also conducted the children's Sunday School there as well. She didn't hesitate to take out her prayer cloth or holy water and say a prayer for strength and comfort; or to protect her children when she thought we were in the midst of trouble. We're sure our mom's prayers kept us safe from harm many times.
Mom was always there for us. No distance was too far for her to go for her family. She even traveled to Italy by herself to be there for the birth of one of her grandchildren, when dad couldn't go with her. She always found a way to do whatever she could when it came to her family. She loved her family to no end.
Our mother had a favorite clock in her bedroom. It was a small, glass encased clock with a pendulum. It hadn't worked in years, but mom still kept it. The night our mother passed away, the pendulum on the clock started gently swaying. No one had touched it or made any moves to make the pendulum move, but it was swaying back and forth after all these years. We looked at it and were puzzled because the pendulum hadn't moved in years. That was a divine message from the Lord that mom was ok now and we shouldn't be sad. She was in Heaven and no longer in pain. In the moment of our worst grief, the slow swaying of the pendulum gave us peace.
She leaves behind adult children Gerald A. Watson and wife Janice Watson; Letica A. Bailey-Kruse and Husband Richard V. Kruse; SGM (Retired) DeMarcus W. Watson and wife Melissa S. Watson; Curtis L. Watson; Celestine R. Watson and her significant other Christopher Lee; Sariah L. Watson and Oraca C. Newberry. She also leaves behind twenty-three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Cleve Watson.
Mom, you are sorely missed! You did a great job during your time here on Earth. We love you mom. We miss you. Rest in peace in Heaven.
