Age 80, Lawton - Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Paradise Valley Baptist Church, north of Lawton, with Donny Crittendon, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Griggs died Monday in a Marlow nursing center. Burial will be in the Paradise Valley Cemetery, north of Lawton, under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home. She was born February 21, 1927 to the Rev. William Eldred and Alma Lorene Young Smith in Troup, Texas. She moved with her family to Marlow in 1930. She attended Marlow schools and graduated with the class of 1945. She worked at the Marlow Bus Station for a short period of time. She began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone on January 13, 1947 and continued to work with Southwestern Bell until her retirement in May of 1979. She married Harold Bert Taylor Griggs on March 2, 1963 in Marlow. He died November 17, 1994. She was a member of Paradise Valley Baptist Church, the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 38 in Marlow and the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 255 in Elgin. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Meers FCE. She is survived by two stepdaughters, Kristin Taylor, Midwest City, Oklahoma, and Lisa Griggs, Guthrie, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Mirabai and Elijah Hull, Norman, Oklahoma, and Angela Stokes, Fort Worth, Texas; two great grandsons, Christopher and William Stokes, Fort Worth; nieces and nephews, Melodie Wonderly and husband Roger, Oklahoma City, Kevin Smith and wife Kathy, Oklahoma City, and Pam Burnett and husband Loy, Lawton; a sister in law, Rose Orene Smith, Oklahoma City; many special nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many special cousins and friends. Her parents, a brother, Eldred Franklin Smith, a sister, Leota Lee Davis, and a step-daughter, Leanne Clark, preceded her in death.
