Mary Joyce Boyles Davis Hill, age 89, Lawton, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born February 25, 1928 in Cheyenne, WY to George D. and Freda M. (Burke) Boyles. Mary was instantly the apple of her mother and father's eye. As an Army Air Corp brat they lived in many places including Panama. When Pearl Harbor was attacked they were evacuated from Panama to Fort Sill, OK where they made their home. She attended the old Lawton High School for her junior and senior high school. She met Eugene Davis in 1944 and they fell in love and were married May 29, 1945. They had three beautiful children together, Ronald G. Davis, Cynthia Ann Davis, and George Davis. Eugene owned and operated Davis and Son's Moving and Storage until he died in a tragic car accident on November 19, 1955. As a young widow with three young children Mary Joyce pulled up her boot straps and took over the family's business and renamed it to Southwest Moving and Storage. She was one of the first women in Lawton to own and operate her own business. Though many people expected her to fail in this "man's world" she did the exact opposite by thriving and continuing to own and operate the business for the next 53 years. In 1960 Mary met the love of her life, Ether Coin "Johnny" Hill and were married January 3, 1960. They remained happily married until his tragic death in July 2005. She has been revered as a business woman and was nominated multiple times as Comanche County Outstanding Woman of the Year. However her biggest and most important role has been playing Mema to her three grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren who adored her just as much if not more.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Davis, Lawton; her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Patsy Davis, Lawton; her grandchildren, Robert Foerster and wife Amy, Jennifer (Downing) Hancock and husband Matthew, and Josh Davis; and four great grandchildren, Katie Foerster, Kaylee Hancock, Emily Foerster and Jacob Hancock.
Her parents, both husbands, her son, George Davis, her sister, Phyllis Ann Botkin, and a cousin, Carl Burke, preceded her in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Children's Hospital or the Ronald McDonald House in honor of her great grandson, Jacob Hancock.
