Age 88, Lawton - memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Al Potts, Pastor, First United Methodist Church officiating. Mrs. Matheny died Wednesday in Lawton. Inurnment will be in the Columbarium at the First United Methodist Church under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service. She was born October 30, 1921 in Cleveland, Oklahoma, to Homer A. and Ellis (Bogan) Barr. She grew up Chandler, Oklahoma, and was a graduate of Chandler High School and would later attend business school. She married Arthur J. Matheny in Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death in 1968 Mrs. Matheny had worked for a couple of years with John Deere Tractor in Oklahoma City and moved to Lawton in 1959. She worked for the Lawton Public School system for more than 20 years as an administrative secretary retiring at Kuntz Elementary School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She had been active in the Lawton Book and Play Review Club as well as Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra, reading, gardening, sewing and needlework. She is survived by two children, Mike Matheny and wife Cindy, Nashville, Tennessee, and Nancy Matheny, Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Marilee Bushnell and husband William and Teri Matheny; two great grandchildren, Will and Kate Bushnell. Her parents and a brother, Bill Barr, preceded her in death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawton Food Bank, 1405 SW 20th Street, Lawton OK 73501.
